What is Itch Support Gold?

Itch Support Gold is a dynamic blend of nine herbal ingredients designed to target skin-related allergy irritations that can occur when dogs come into contact with an allergen.* While some dogs manage constant skin allergies, others may experience them seasonally or occasionally. Skin allergies have become increasingly prevalent among pets, often leading to frequent vet visits.

This formula works to regulate the physiological imbalance that can turn a dog's skin, including their paws, red and intensely itchy. It embraces Traditional Chinese Medicine principles to address the root imbalance internally, offering external comfort without the potential side effects often associated with prolonged prescription medication use.

*Itch Support Gold is not for acute or severe allergic reactions. It does not address emergency allergy situations such as anaphylaxis.

If your dog requires immediate or emergency medical attention, please call your veterinarian or nearest veterinary clinic.

What is Itch Support Gold used for?

Like people, dogs are susceptible to environmental or dietary allergens and irritants that cause allergic reactions. Some dog breeds are more likely to experience skin-related allergies, which may decrease with age.

For canines, allergies primarily manifest through their skin. Flare-ups tend to be persistent and recurring, evolving into a condition that requires ongoing management despite numerous efforts to calm symptoms. Identifying the underlying cause of the allergy can be a lengthy yet essential process.

The allergen typically enters the body through one of four ways:

  • Contact with a physical substance
  • Ingestion through their diet
  • Inhalation of airborne allergens
  • Exposure to flea bites, often from flea saliva

If the dog is sensitized to a specific allergen, their body perceives it as a threat and triggers an allergic reaction.

Naturally, if the allergen is known, the optimal approach is to eliminate or minimize exposure. However, this can prove challenging in some cases, like grass allergies.

Skin allergies may appear as:

  • Heightened and sometimes persistent itching, along with scratching and/or licking
  • Redness
  • Moist skin, dry/flaky skin, or scabbing
  • Itchy ears (potentially leading to ear infections)
  • Swollen and itchy paws

Itching may occur across the entire body or be localized in specific areas. Your dog's behavior might alter due to constant discomfort, resulting in irritability, disrupted sleep, fatigue, and potential aggression. If repeated scratching breaks the skin, the area may be susceptible to infection.

Itch Support Gold works to support a healthy immune response to allergens rather than masking or temporarily easing complications. The powerful blend of herbs synergistically eases pervasive and localized itchy discomfort. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) this product is termed an External Wind formula. The term “Wind” refers to symptoms that suddenly appear, change quickly, and affect the skin’s surface.

Although most dogs don’t react to compounds they encounter at home or outside, those with sensitive immune systems are predisposed to developing skin allergies and sensitivities. In addition to environmental and food allergens, as well as flea reactions, other health issues can also trigger allergic reactions in dogs.

This powerful formula was designed to be highly effective in the short-term while addressing the root cause of your dog’s allergy flare-ups. It’s nature’s holistic blend of skin support!

Examples of common allergens:

  • Pollens and grasses
  • Dust, dust mites, and molds
  • Fragrances and other chemicals including those found in most laundry detergents, pet shampoos, and household cleaners
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Prescription medication (including flea medication or medicated flea products)
  • Insect bites
  • Dander and feathers (may be in pillows, duvets, or bedspreads)
  • Foods such as dairy and beef products, soy, wheat, corn, chicken, and chicken by-products
  • Foods or treats containing food-coloring

Itch Support Gold offers dynamic support for allergy-related discomfort like itchy, red, dry, and moist skin.

An allergic reaction may also cause respiratory-related symptoms like:

  • Sneezing
  • Itchy, runny nose
  • Difficulty breathing from an airborne allergen

For allergy-related respiratory issues, consider Pet Wellbeing Nettle-Eyebright Gold.

Always seek the guidance of your veterinarian when necessary.

Prevention and Avoidance:

After identifying the cause of your dog’s skin reaction, try to eliminate exposure as much as possible and keep in mind that complete elimination isn’t always doable. Additionally, it’s essential to remember that allergies can stem from various or multiple factors, and your dog might tolerate some level of exposure before experiencing a reaction.

For instance, a dog may have sensitivities to laundry detergent, dust mites, and flea bites. While there may be minor itching on a typical day, a significant reaction could occur with a flea bite. This intensified reaction happens because the immune system is already coping with the first two allergens. When a third allergen is introduced, it overwhelms the system. The immune system may be able to handle two allergens but not three, causing a compounded reaction.

By minimizing allergen exposure as much as possible, you may notice fewer or no reactions even with occasional exposure to irritants. Check for common allergens in your household or your dog's living environment to help manage their sensitivities.

Diet:

Like humans, dogs can develop sensitivities to foods they eat regularly without variation. Just as variety is important for human health, dogs thrive on a diverse diet. Experts recommend switching your dog's food periodically. The most common food allergens and sensitivities for dogs include beef and dairy products, chicken and chicken by-products, soy, corn, wheat, and artificial food coloring.

If food allergies are known or suspected, consider trying homemade dog food recipes with simple ingredients. Your veterinarian may recommend an elimination diet, starting with basic foods and gradually introducing others. Symptoms tend to subside with this simplified diet. Reintroducing the allergen will cause symptoms to reappear suddenly, indicating which food to avoid in the future.

A species-appropriate raw food diet can be an excellent alternative for dogs with food sensitivities or even those without. Find a reputable source of raw dog food and follow proper health and safety guidelines for serving. Frozen blocks are portioned for different dog sizes and should be thawed before feeding. Ensure your dog is not sensitive to the protein source and opt for meat raised without hormones or antibiotics. Giving your pup raw food is straightforward and may be more cost effective than commercially available "designer" allergy diets. With food allergies, simplicity is key. Itch Support Gold may only offer limited support if your dog continues to consume food that causes an allergic reaction.

Nutrition:

To help your dog feel their best, consider adding essential nutrients, like vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids, to their diet such as Pet Wellbeing Omega-3 Daily Wellness Omega-3s are known for their ability to nurture skin cells and support inflammation and are especially helpful for managing allergy-related skin issues. Pet Wellbeing SPARK Daily Nutritional Greens Supplement is a comprehensive blend of nutrients and superfoods sourced from whole foods and combined with probiotics and enzymes to support vibrant overall health.

It's recommended to work with your veterinarian to identify allergen triggers and create a therapeutic plan that suits your dog’s needs. Carefully monitor for any possible side effects caused by long-term prescription medication use like steroids and antibiotics.

Bathe your dog regularly:

Choose a shampoo you know won’t irritate your dog's skin condition. Remember that shampoos are another potential irritant, especially those with fragrance or harsh detergents.

Minimize insect bites:

Apply natural, non-synthetic repellent frequently during seasons when biting insects are active in your area. Remember that flea bite allergies and sensitivities are common, and a reaction to the flea or flea saliva may appear long after the bite occurs.

Allergy - or just dry skin?

Low indoor and outdoor humidity levels can cause dry air and, in turn, dry, itchy skin. Notice whether your dog starts itching when the heat or air-conditioning is on or during seasonal changes that bring drier air. You can measure your home’s humidity using a hygrometer, which you can find at hardware or home improvement stores. An optimal humidity range is typically between 35% and 50%. If the air in your home becomes too dry, a humidifier can help maintain the necessary humidity levels for your dog (and yourself) to stay happy and healthy.

Symptoms resembling allergies may indicate other types of disorders in your dog, so it's important to have them examined and diagnosed by a veterinarian.

A note from our veterinarian:

Itch Support Gold provides support for all allergy-related hot spots and itchy paws. It does not contain pharmaceutical ingredients and results will vary for each pup patient depending on the condition’s severity and how long it’s been present. You can expect improvement over days or weeks.

Supplementation with Itch Support Gold may be discontinued once desired results are achieved. If issues reappear, reintroduce as necessary. Constant supplementation is not necessary.

Itch Support Gold is formulated with:

  • Dong Quai root (Angelica sinensis): An herb of Eastern Asia, its many uses include helping to carry oxygen to tissues, supporting normal blood flow, and promoting normal responses to allergens. The effects of Dong Quai may be due to its inhibitions of thromboxane A2 formation and prostaglandin E2 production.
  • Tribulus fruit (Tribulus terrestris): In combination with these other herbs, Tribulus has been shown to help maintain skin health.
  • Rehmannia root (Rehmannia glutinosa): This steamed root is a vital herb used widely in the traditional Chinese herbal repertory and contain vitamins C, A and some B vitamins. It is best known for its "tonic" properties to fortify the blood, increase vitality and support capillary integrity. It is used here to stabilize Yin and fortify and move the blood.
  • Chinese Peony root (Paeonia lactiflora): This root has a normalizing effect on allergies, particularly on certain skin allergies.
  • Schizonepeta aerial parts (Nepeta tenuifolia): Schizonepeta has superoxide scavenging activity, which might explain its common use for itchy skin issues. It is thought to exert an effect by reducing histamine release and inhibiting substance-P-induced itching in animals.
  • Siler root (Saposhnikovia divaricata): Good for liver Qi stagnation, common when itchy skin needs support. It also helps the body's natural mechanisms of flushing toxins for excretion.
  • Ligusticum root (Ligusticum wallichii): Similar to North American Osha and Lovage, it has properties that support the body's normal defenses from viral and microbial infections. Osha has also been used by Native American and Hispanic cultures for seasonal allergies.
  • Astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceus): One of the best known "adaptogens," Astragalus is a replenishing herb for normal recovery from illness. It protects against free radicals and is widely used for immune health.
  • Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza uralensis): This root is used to 'harmonize' the formula and promote synergy of its herbal ingredients.
